Confederate relatives

Since Callis was born in North Carolina, it is not unusual that his blood relatives fought for the Confederacy. Three of his uncles served and three of his first cousins died, one at Chancellorsville, where the 7th Wisconsin was peripherally involved. His father was the only member of the family to move out of the slave states.
